CHICAGO — Four people are in custody after a shooting and crash on the city’s South Side that left 10 people, including four Chicago police officers, injured on Saturday, according to Chicago police and fire officials.

Fire officials say the shooting happened near the 7000 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in Grand Crossing and the crash happened near East 54th Street and South State Street in Washington Park.

According to Chicago police, the shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. while two people, a 24-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were walking along the sidewalk. Police say the two were approached by a vehicle and that is when at least one person from inside the car pulled out a gun and fired shots at the two victims.

Police say the man suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh while the woman suffered a graze wound. Both were taken to the hospital in good condition.

Following the shooting, officers located the vehicle involved in the 5400 block of South State Street, but officers responding to the scene were involved in a crash that required the help of the Chicago Fire Department.

According to police, four CPD officers involved in the crash were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Chicago fire officials say four other people were taken to the hospital in fair condition following the crash.

Police say four people were taken into custody following the crash and shooting, and officers recovered two guns.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and police say Area One Detectives are now investigating.
