CHICAGO — A 13-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was shot in the leg in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the city’s South Side Friday night. 

According to Chicago police, the shooting happened just before 8:30 p.m. in the 400 block of East 50th Place.

Police said the teen boy was standing near a street in the area when he was hit in the leg by gunfire. 

The boy was taken to the hospital in fair condition and police have not provided details on what led to the shooting.

According to the Chicago Police Department, an investigation is now underway and no arrests have been made.

Data from CPD shows, as of Oct. 15, shooting incidents in the 2nd District, which includes the location where this shooting happened, are down 19 percent from the same time period last year. Compared to four years ago, however, shooting incidents in the district are up 45 percent.

Chicago police also confirmed to WGN-TV there have been 295 shooting victims under the age of 18 since the start of the year.
