OAK LAWN, Ill. — A woman was jolted out of sleep overnight after a suspected drunk driver crashed into her house in Oak Lawn.

Oak Lawn police were called to the scene just after midnight on Saturday after reports that a car had crashed into a home in the 5000 block of 99th Street.

Police say a resident was sleeping on a couch inside and the vehicle ended up pushing the couch several feet inside the home.

The resident was taken to the hospital and has since been released.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver, 49-year-old Roberto Rios, had allegedly run a stop sign in the area before crashing into the home.

Officers say they suspected that Rios was under the influence of alcohol during the crash. Rios was arrested and taken to the hospital where it was revealed that his blood alcohol level allegedly exceeded the legal limit.

Rios has since been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, disobeying a stop sign and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Rios is set to appear in court on Feb. 28th.
