NWS Chicago says windchills of -20 to -30 can result in frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. They say to prepare for bitterly cold temperatures and plan ahead for possible cold-related impacts.

Extended outlook calls for a few more breaks of sun on MLK day with temps starting out around -10 (with wind chills -20 to -30) and getting to about -1 in the afternoon. More sun on Tuesday with temps around zero in the afternoon. Clouds & sun on Wednesday with highs in the mid teens. A bit of snow is possible Thu into Friday with highs on Thursday that could get towards 20. Back to near 10 on Friday.

Several warnings and advisories are in effect across Chicagoland as temperatures continue to fall.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for McHenry, Lake, Northern Cook, De Kalb, Kane, Kendall, LaSalle, Grundy, Kankakee, Will, DuPage and Lee counties until 3 a.m. on Sunday morning.

According to Meteorologist Mike Janssen, snow, blowing snow, and drifting could lead to snow-covered roads and low visibility of under 1/2 mile or less. Open areas on north/south-oriented roads are especially susceptible.
