CHICAGO — The Chicago White Sox have traded away starting pitcher Erick Fedde, reliever Michael Kopech and outfielder Tommy Pham for multiple prospects in a three-team deal, according to multiple reports.
As part of the deal, Fedde is going to St. Louis and Cardinals’ infielder Tommy Edman is headed to the Dodgers. Reliever Michael Kopech is reportedly headed to the Dodgers as well.
Tommy Pham is headed back to St. Louis as part of the trade.
The White Sox are getting back infielder Jeral Perez (L.A.’s no. 17 rated prospect) and infielder Alexander Albertus (no. 23), according to reports. The South Siders are also reportedly receiving 24-year-old utilityman Miguel Vargas from Los Angeles.
Fedde returned to MLB this season after shining in South Korea in 2023. He won the KBO’s MVP Award and then signed a two-year, $15 million deal with Chicago.
Kopech was acquired from Boston as a top prospect in Dec. 2016 as part of the Chris Sale trade. While boasting electric stuff, he has struggled with injuries throughout his tenure moving between the bullpen and staff.
He sported a 4.74 ERA so far this season and a 5.43 ERA last year.
Pham signed with the Sox in April and has produced a .710 OPS as a veteran.
When looking at the prospects on the surface, Perez and Albertus, both 19, have excelled at the place in lower levels.
The White Sox are in the midst of a 14-game losing streak and are 27-81 on the season.
Getz and company’s next big decision will be whether to trade pitcher Garrett Crochet and outfielder Luis Robert. Both are club-controlled but could be traded to bolster a farm system that isn’t looked at too highly.
The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday at 5 p.m.
The Sox host the Royals Monday night at 7 p.m.
