CHICAGO — The city could see its first snowflakes of the season this week.
We’re not expecting accumulation, so there’s no need to grab the boots and shovels just yet. But conditions may be right on Wednesday for the first flakes to fall.
“Overnight temps will be around freezing and a colder airmass dropping down from the north late Wednesday will set us up for a good chance of our first snowflakes of the season,” WGN meteorologist Alyssa Donovan said.
Expect a dusting to maybe one-tenth of an inch.
The first trace of snow typically falls around Halloween, according to data provided by the National Weather Service. Any flakes that fall this week would mean Chicago’s record for the latest first snow, December 5, will hold for a 25th year.
The earliest snow recorded in Chicago was September 25, both in 1928 and 1942.
