According to a preliminary investigation, the teen was travelling northbound on Reuter Drive and entered the intersection, stricking a Ford F150 in the rear passenger door at a high rate of speed. Officials say the initial investigation suggests the teen failed to obey the stop sign.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to police.

There is no suspicion of impairment for the driver of the Ford F150.

The principal of Rolling Meadows High School released the following statement on the teen’s death:

“Our school is grieving the heartbreaking loss of one of our students, Samuel Alfaro Acevedo, who died in a tragic accident last night. Samuel’s passing has deeply impacted his classmates, teammates, teachers and all of us who are part of the Rolling Meadows High School community. We ask that you keep Samuel’s family in your thoughts and hearts at this incredibly difficult time.”
